PROJECT: Yarn Nation, the network behind New Stitch a Day and the Yarn Academy online courses, was expanding their business ventures to include Pacifica Yarn Co, and an online / brick-and-mortar called Argyle Sheep. To target their online customers and create awareness for their growing yarn brand, they felt a subscription-style quarterly sample box would fit their business model.
CONCEPT: A literal, identifiable logo was requested, which led to a simple abstract representation of a Garter stitch, knit swatch. Design limits included an existing standard 9 x 6 x 4 box die line, room for an address label and postage on the exterior layout, and a single color print-process. The brand desired a modern, minimal and playful identity, leading to a wandering, tangled, twisting yarn ball line drawing for the box exterior design, and the interior included CTA's and icons. A split-box interior insert was custom designed to package the yarn sample cards vertically, and take up empty space.
